"A common theme amongst the vehicles represented is that they are all niche, stylish representatives of their respective segments," said Gaywheels.com founder Joe LaMuraglia. "The list also shows that LGBT consumers are drawn to a myriad of body styles and price points."
The Audi R8 held its position on the top spot of the list for the second quarter in a row. The Mitsubishi Outlander and the Mazda Mazda3 knocked two vehciles from VW out of the 3rd and 4th spot respectively. VW's Golf stayed in the second spot. The VW Jetta and Eos are down in the ranking but hardly out.
The Top 10 Most-Researched list is based on website statistics gathered from Oct 1, 2009 - December 31, 2009 from Gaywheels.com's new car data partner vLane.com. Gaywheels.com publishes the Most-Researched list quarterly.

Audi R8 Knocks VW Golf Out of Pole Position, Mercedes-Benz C-Class Joins the E-Class on the Gaywheels Most Researched List
New York, NY - Gay and lesbian vehicle shoppers' behavior is often stereotyped as being all luxury and all convertibles. In reality, the data dispels that myth while giving some credence to it at the same time. Today, Gaywheels.com announced its list of the Top 10 Most-Researched Vehicles during the third quarter of 2009:
Gaywheels.com Top 10 Most-Researched Vehicles -3rd Quarter 2009
Rank
1 Audi R8
2 VW Golf
3 VW Jetta
4 VW Eos
5 Nissan Quest
6 Mitsubishi Outlander
7 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
8 Mazda MAZDA3
9 Saab 9-3
10 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
"If LGBT consumers' behavior is indicative of future trends, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel for auto makers," said Gaywheels.com founder Joe LaMuraglia. "For the first time there is a luxury sports car in the #1 spot on the list. Historically, that slot has been held by stylish, affordable and fuel efficient vehicles. We also have the most luxury vehicles ever represented in the research data."
The Audi R8 debuted on the list in the second quarter of 2009 and has quickly moved up to the top spot. VW continues with a strong showing with the Golf, Jetta and Eos in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th spots respectively. Mercedes-Benz made its first showing ever last quarter and in this time period has two vehicles, the E-Class and the C-Class, on the most-researched list.
"In a study of LGBT new car buyers conducted in the Spring of 2009 with market research and consulting firm Sorgenfrei, we learned that gay men and lesbians have disparate needs and purchase reasons for their vehicles. This may explain the myriad of price points and body styles represented in the data," said LaMuraglia. "I've said this many times, the LGBT consumer is the most diverse diversity group and this data supports that statement."
The Top 10 Most Researched list is based on website statistics gathered from July 1, 2009 - September 30, 2009 from Gaywheels.com's new car data partner vLane.com. Gaywheels.com publishes the Most-Researched list quarterly.

“The latest Top 10 Most Researched list shows the diversity of interests among LGBT automotive consumers,” said Gaywheels.com founder Joe LaMuraglia. “The vehicles are a combination of luxury and non-luxury brands that represent a myriad of price points and body styles.”
VW’s Rabbit/Golf continues in its top spot and brand mates Eos and Jetta also repeat their showing on the list. The high-performance Audi R8 makes its first appearance in the second spot and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Nissan Quest debut at the sixth and eighth place respectively.
“We know from previous studies that gay men rank style as their #1 purchase reason which explains the Audi R8 and new E-Class showing up on the list,” said LaMuraglia. “What fascinates me is that vehicles like the Nissan Quest make such a strong showing. As I’ve said before, the LGBT consumer is the most diverse diversity group and that seems to be reflected in the vehicles researched on Gaywheels.com.”

Gaywheels.com Dealer Locator Data Reveals Gay Car Shoppers are Brand Agnostic
River Edge, NJ – Data from Gaywheels.com shows that the majority of gay car shoppers are brand agnostic when searching for a new vehicle. The analysis examined how in-market gay car shoppers search for new car retailers, found that more than half (54%) of gay consumers allowed their purchasing decision to be driven by the proximity of a gay-friendly dealership rather than an allegiance to a specific make of vehicle.
Gaywheels.com Top 10 Dealer Locator Brand Searches

“Gay consumers are concerned that when they enter the showroom with a partner of the same sex, they won’t be afforded the same respect as a straight car buyer,” said Gaywheels.com founder Joe LaMuraglia. “These concerns, whether right or wrong, are what drives gay car shoppers to seek out a gay-friendly dealership first and foremost when it comes time to spend money on a new car, truck or SUV.”
When gay car shoppers did search for a specific brand, Mazda was the most-requested nameplate with 5% of the search results, which equates to 2.4x their market share. Other brands that over-index with this demographic include Audi (2.9x), BMW (1.8x), Volkswagen (1.8x) and Mercedes-Benz (1.4x).
Every franchised new-car dealer in the U.S. is listed in the Gaywheels.com dealer locator, but dealers have the option to advertise via premium listings that allow the user to email the showroom, get directions or click directly to the dealers’ web site. While Gaywheels.com does not classify dealers as gay-friendly, simply advertising to the Gaywheels.com user is generally interpreted as such by gay car shoppers .
“Many dealers are missing an inexpensive and easy way to increase showroom traffic and sales,” added LaMuraglia. “63% of the respondents to the survey said that advertising in gay media is a way for a company to define themselves as gay-friendly and these results indicate that the users are seeking a gay-friendly dealer near them.”
The Top 10 Dealer Locator brands list is based on website statistics gathered from January 1 – April 30th, 2009 from Gaywheels.com’s servers.
VW Rabbit Protects Its Burrow, Volvo C30 Moves Up to Third Among Gaywheels Most Researched Vehicles
River Edge, NJ – Gays and lesbians continue to do their homework when it comes to buying cars and the Volkswagen Rabbit and Eos remain at the top of their list when searching on Gaywheels.com, the sole source of information specifically targeted to and about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) car-shoppers. Today, Gaywheels.com announced its list of the Top 10 Most-Researched Vehicles during the first quarter of 2009:

9 VW Jetta
10 Mazda MAZDA3
“The latest Top 10 Most Researched list supports the results of our recent LGBT Auto Owner’s survey,” said Gaywheels.com founder Joe LaMuraglia. “Volkswagen and Audi are two brands that are over-represented by Gay Men in the study and those brands represent 40% of the Top 10 list.”
Other brand positions further supported the recent survey results; the Saab 9-3 has consistently been on the most-researched list and that brand is the most over-indexed for both Gay Men and Lesbians.
“All the vehicles on the most-researched list are expressive, stylish vehicles and with the sole exception of the Maserati GranTurismo, all are fuel efficient and come from gay-friendly manufacturers,” added LaMuraglia. “This is also in line with the purchase reasons from the study. The top purchase reason for Gay Men is styling and for Lesbians is fuel economy.”

Notice also that the Top 10 aren't all luxury brands or from manufacturers that one would normally associate with the gay consumer. The fact of the matter is, we are a very diverse group of people united by sexual orientation. We represent every ethnicity, income group and live in 99% of the counties in the U.S. Statistically, we have a higher disposable income and like to spend more on luxury goods but there are those amongst us that are perfectly happy with more affordable products. The most important fact revealed in this data is that our community clearly supports companies that treat us with respect. And for that, we thank all the gay-friendly companies in all industries in the U.S.
Gaywheels.com classifies all vehicle manufacturers as gay-friendly or not based on their corporate policies for offering domestic-partner benefits to their employees in the U.S. The Most Researched list is based on website statistics gathered from April 1 – June 30, 2006 from Gaywheels.com New Car section powered by Edmunds.com
