Detroit Gay Pride Celebration Puts Singles in the Driver's Seat

The Detroit GLBT newspaper (Between the Lines), the GLBT community center (Affirmations), and General Motors' GLBT employee resource group (GM PLUS) are playing matchmaker at Detroit's Gay Pride celebration by getting in gear for a dating experience like no other with “Dating in the Fast Lane!”

Motor City Pride singles can sign up to participate in speed dating with a twist - either putting themselves in the driver’s seat or the back seat. Speed dating is a great way for singles to meet new people and maybe you’ll even decide to drive off into the sunset with the new love of your life. Regardless of whether you're just kicking the tires or you're ready to buy, GM is providing the date spot by opening their car doors to our single friends.

Here’s how “Dating in the Fast Lane!” speed dating works:

First impressions:

- Arrive 20 minutes before your first date to check-in.
- At check-in, you will be assigned a license plate number (or an ID), given your first date and car assignment.
Please note: Your date (or your reserved spot) may be re-assigned if you arrive late.

The Dates:

Dates will take place in the front and backseats of a Cadillac, Saab or Saturn vehicle. The first date will start at the sound of a car horn. Each date will last 3-5 minutes. When it’s time to move on to your next dating option, the car horn will sound again. Dating coordinators will help you navigate your way through the dating process. Based on the schedule and timing, we’re going to try to have 5 dates and a bonus 6th date (if time permits).

The Match:

After each date, you will have a feedback card to rate your date. Feedback cards will be collected after all dates are complete. Matches will be posted using your license plate (or ID) numbers, 45-60 minutes after your dates are complete.
